SUMMARY
In an effort to ensure the health and safety of grantees, staff and their communities, AmeriCorps State and National has decided to host a virtual Symposium this September.

The 2020 AmeriCorps State and National Symposium will be held September 15 - September 17, 2020. Pre-Symposium events will take place Monday, September 14. The Symposium is a required annual grantee training for AmeriCorps State and National prime grantees. Attendance is mandatory.
Each year, CNCS delivers a multi-day Symposium for leaders of State Service Commissions, multi-state programs, programs operating in a territory without a commission, tribal programs, and tribal planning grantees. The AmeriCorps State and National Symposium offers an opportunity to learn more about grant requirements and best practices, build relationships with CNCS staff at all levels, and network with colleagues from a variety of programs. The event is designed to build the AmeriCorps network and strengthen programming and service experiences across the country. Participants include executive directors, program officers, and financial officers who manage AmeriCorps funds and programs. The Symposium is particularly beneficial for executive directors and staff who are new to AmeriCorps.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Goals of the Event
The Symposium is one of the most important investments CNCS makes in the growth of the national service field. AmeriCorps State and National prime grantees are required to attend the Symposium because critical governance information will be provided, and it is expected that Symposium participants will disseminate this information to all service sites, subgrantees, operating sites, and AmeriCorps members they manage.
Participants
Symposium participants will include a combination of brand new AmeriCorps program and state commission staff as well as those who have worked in national and community service for many years. For the most part, participants will be executive directors and commission and program managers. They will include staff of national programs, tribal programs, and State Service Commissions. It is important to know that the content of the Symposium will address all types of grantees and experience levels, and there will be a number of opportunities to network with peers and colleagues across the country.
Agenda
Before the Symposium, please take a look at the schedule and full program when it becomes available. You can find the agenda by clicking this link . In the agenda, you’ll see that there are a few sessions tailored to particular audiences. For instance, there are workshops and meetings designed specifically for tribal grantees and state commissions, and sessions that are designed for new grantee staff. You’ll see these distinctions in the titles of many of the sessions, and you’ll be able to see the target audience for all workshops and meetings in the full program. Please select the session that is most applicable to your type of organization and level of experience.
Mobile App
You may also want to download the Symposium mobile app before the event. This is an optional free resource available to help you navigate the Symposium. The mobile app will include the agenda, speaker bios, participant list, map of the hotel, and more. To download the app, search AmeriCorps 2020 in the App Store or Google Play. The app will also allow you to complete session evaluation forms online, and it will be updated with announcements and presenter materials throughout the event.
Evaluations
All participants will be invited to provide feedback on each session provided at the Symposium. These evaluations will be compiled after the Symposium and participant feedback will be shared with the field used to inform future CNCS training events and meetings.
